Our 13u team won silver at provincials

The 13u team from the Brant Youth Volleyball Club had an amazing run at this year’s Ontario Volleyball Association’s provincial championships held in Waterloo this weekend.  They were initially seeded 26/28 teams in Division 2 (58/76 teams overall).  After starting the tournament with a 1-2 record on day 1, they caught fire and won 6 of their next 7 matches to come away with a silver medal and number 2 ranking in Division 2 – improving their seeding by 24 places!

The Tornadoes opened pool play on Friday with a 22-25, 25-15, 15-13 win over London Fire Intensity.  They dropped their next two matches to Milton Edge 10-25, 18-25 and the Mississauga Pakmen 22-25, 13-25.  They started Saturday with a 25-23, 25-13 win over the Waterloo Tigers and followed that with a 25-12, 20-25, 15-5 win over Sudbury Northern Chill.  They ended the day with a 25-13, 25-19 win over Chatham Ballhawks to finish pool play with a 4-2 record.  This placed them in Tier 1 of Division 2 for sudden death Sunday playoffs.

The Tornadoes opened up the playoffs with an exciting 25-13, 16-25,15-12 over Hamilton MVC Maroon.  They guaranteed themselves a medal by defeating the West Nipissing Wild 25-5, 25-21 in quarter-final action.  With their confidence growing, they then defeated the Niagara Rapids in a tight 26-24, 25-27, 15-5 semi final match to advance to the finals.  Their run came to an end with a 15-25, 20-25 loss to Hamilton MVC Black.

u17 Girls Won Silver

The 17U girls team from the Brant Youth Volleyball Club captured a silver medal on the weekend in the OVA’s Challenge Cup held in Windsor on the weekend.

 

Pool Play:

L vs London Forest City 23-25, 9-25

W vs London VC Ignite 25-7, 23-25, 15-6

 

Playoffs:

W vs Sarnia Twin Bridges 25-8, 24-26, 15-11

W vs Essex South County Bandits 22-25, 25-15, 15-13

L vs London Forest City 16-25, 15-25

2015 Year in Review

2015 has been a great year for BYVC. Here are some of the great things that happened in the club in the last year.

  • April  – This was a group of girls from 2015 winter house league program.  With only one practice together, they finished third in a select team tournament.

  • Summer – Building/Completion of the beach courts
  • ICG Alkmaar – Tori/Emerald finishing 4th in the first ever ICG beach volleyball competition
  • SPIKES – record participation for us in fall session of SPIKES with 48 registered

  • Introduction of Little Diggers program
  • Endorsed by OVA to be one of five groups to pilot the Smashball program
  • Oct – Hosted an OVA coaching clinic – Development Coach level
  • Green-OVA-Logo
  • Dec – The last tournament weekend of the year was huge for us.  Our U14 team brought home the Silver and our U16 team brought of the Gold. What a way to finish.
