17U Girls – Tornadoes Take Bronze Medal in Challenge Cup Tournament!!

The 17U Brant Tornadoes travelled to Mohawk College for an early 8am start, but showed no signs of grogginess with a quick 25-18 win against the Niagara Athletics Aces. Dropping the next two sets to the eventual Gold medal winners, they finished pool play against Scorpions Ace with two straight sets.

Post-lunch started with a set loss to Chatham Ballhawks Attack, but they battled back to grind out a 25-23 win and a dominant 15-4 clincher to move into semis.

Meeting MVC Helicon in the semis was a gruelling battle lost by the minimum 4 points in a match going 25-23, 23-25, 13-15.

With not much time to recover, the bronze medal match started with a 31-29 win against Georgetown Impact Attack with everyone holding their breath at every possible set point back and forth. With the momentum, the girls closed out the match clinching their first OVA medal of the season led by Kiah, Jordyn, and Alexis in the Bronze medal match.

Throughout the day, everyone contributed in a balanced attack led by captain Meara quarterbacking the offense with timely dumps and a never before seen “Shoot” to co-captain Diya. The Challenge Cup saw a season-best team hitting percentage taking advantage of libero, Izzy’s standout play in the backcourt.

A well-deserved and hard-fought medal before the holiday break!

15U Girls – Storm’s First Tournament of the Season…

Brant Storm hit the court for our first U15 OVA tournament on Saturday, Nov. 22nd. While the results weren’t what we hoped for, the experience was invaluable. We learned a lot about one another, what we’re capable of, and how we can continue to grow together as a team.

Every match played went to 3 close sets, giving the girls plenty of touches and solid game-play experience that will serve us well moving forward. We had many great plays throughout the day and, although we came up just short, the effort was undeniable.

Our tournament MVP was our Middle- Brianna Koen (#13). Brianna played every set, stayed positive, and worked incredibly hard in the back court all day. Outstanding job, Brianna!
